Veg News: Lose Weight, Gain Muscle

Here a great little article on vegetarian weight loss and includes a recipe that is high in protein to help build muscle.

Sure, you’ve heard going vegetarian can help you get healthy, but did you know it can also help you build muscle?

Nutrition and fitness expert, Tiffani Bachus says eating vegetarian meals at least once a week can help you attain your weight goals, decrease your body fat and increase muscle mass.

According to the American Dietetic Association, well-planned vegetarian diets have also been shown to be beneficial in the prevention and treatment of certain diseases, such as heart disease, diabetes, and certain cancers.

But the best part?

It doesn’t have to be hard, and you can chow down on some delicious food while slimming down!

Bachus does note some challenges when going vegetarian, especially regarding taste and texture. To tackle the taste challenge, use “ground round,” which is usually made from texturized vegetable protein or wheat gluten instead of beef. To help with texture, use mashed tofu, bulgur, lentils, black or pinto beans instead of beef.

To help you get started on your vegetarian adventure, Bachus offers up a tasty muscle-building recipe that can help you meet your protein needs while reaping the benefits of a vegetarian meal.

Polenta Lasagna
Ready in 45 minutes ~ makes 6 servings

Great post! You see, I’m currently working on a blog post and, depending on where my writing takes me, I might just put a citation for this post in it. I hope you won’t mind if I do. Anyway, people all over are making their own takes on what makes for a great muscle building program/routine. The way I see it is that all the things that they are saying… nay, preaching can be rolled up into one thing and that is having the self-discipline to follow-through with whatever it is that you are doing. Personally, I strongly believe that following through is the singular most important ingredient in attaining success, not only in bodybuilding/building muscles but in life in general. Once again, wonderful post. Keep it up! I hope you won’t mind if I look around your blog a bit more.
